Ruskin, 5299 Cockroach Bay Rd, Ruskin, FL 33570, USA

About the event

Horseshoe crabs were once so abundant along the shores of Florida's west coast that early Spanish explorers called them cockroaches, believing them to be seagoing cousins of the insects. Many people think that is how Cockroach Bay received its unlikely name

* THERE IS NO COCKROACHS at Cockroach Bay :)  , THIS IS A HIGH NEED AREA AND REALLY NEEDS HELP*

Cockroach Bay Rd. is located between First National Dr. and Universal Dr. on the west side of US 41 (south county). The area is comprised of sod farms, a retirement community (Hawaiian Isles RV Resort), several ELAPP properties, Boat Ramps, and Cockroach Bay Marine Preserve.

Through observation and discussions with citizens who utilize the marine area frequently, trash is brought up with each discussion. Mostly road trash has been noted in the area, but we do get larger items around the mangroves from time to time.

The Clean Up will concentrate on the county easement along this stretch, the mangroves area, and the boat launch. From starting point to the boat launch is approx. 2.3 mile stretch of roadway. The area is traveled, but traffic is light.

These entities will be involved and on site the day of to assist with trash removal and provide guidance to the volunteers: HCSO EEU, Code Enforcement, and Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.

All cleaning supplies will be provided on site at registration.
