Welcome to Kids’ Kitchen!
A program of Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, Kids’ Kitchen is a youth healthy cooking initiative offering young minds a connection between plants that come from the earth and the food served at the table. We teach kids about the importance of sustainable, earth friendly and self-reliant food practices of growing, cooking and composting to create healthy bodies and contribute to a healthy planet.
Kid’s Kitchen combines in-person and virtual delivery to teach children basic kitchen skills and nutrition lessons to create healthy plant-based dishes from fresh produce. Kids visiting our Environmental Education Center and Florida Learning Garden are invited to choose ingredients from a 16 tower hydroponic garden to make their plant-based dishes. Students are shown how the leftover food scraps from their dishes can be turned to soil by depositing them in the on-site compost bins.
We offer our school and youth club partners high quality hands-on cooking, gardening and composting demonstrations and lessons. The indoor and outdoor spaces at the Environmental Education Center are used as recording sets to create our Kids’ Kitchen Jr. Chef how-to cooking videos. These videos will be used for presentations in schools and after-school programs.
Jr. Chef’s Cooking in the Kids’ Kitchen
Send us a photo (or video!) of you and your child making your favorite healthy snack (or one of the Kids’ Kitchen recipes). Each week through the summer we’ll provide participating Jr. Chefs with Sprouts apron sets.
