The Trashy Flashy Fashion Show features high fashion designs made entirely of 75% recycled
materials. This fashion show, celebrated in honor of America Recycles Day, serves as an educational
opportunity to share ways to decrease our carbon footprint by showcasing examples of
environmentally sustainable fashions.
The Trashy Flashy Fashion Show will focus on the importance of waste reduction through reduce,
reuse and recycle. These waste reduction concepts will be incorporated into the designs through the
use of upcycling and repurposing. To upcycle means to take an item and turn it into an item of
higher value, such as taking some duct-tape and turning it into a dress or a bracelet. These high
fashion pieces will not only intertwine fashion and art with sustainability, but they will show how
beautiful the end result can be.
Attendees will be intrigued by the creativity, uniqueness and abnormality that go into these
wearable works of art derived from recycled materials.
Who can apply to be a designer?
Local students in an art or design program, designers, artists, and the general public who are creative and would like
to participate are welcome.
What is the Trashy Flashy Fashion Show?
